About

Dr James Rakshi has been a consultant neurologist for 20 years and has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic neurological problems. He treats all general neurology problems as well as dementia, dizziness, epilepsy, headache, head injury, multiple sclerosis, neck and back problems, Parkinson's, sleep problems, stroke, and sensory disturbance.

Dr Rakshi earned his medical degree in 1988 from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He became interested in neurology and brain imaging whilst working in the Neurology and Neurosurgical unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the first clinical MRI brain scanner was built. Dr Rakshi studied general medicine for over four years before specialising in neurology, which allows him to approach neurology in a more holistic way. His neurology training was undertaken at various prominent London hospitals, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he later became an Honorary Consultant. Additionally, he has worked in many of London's district general hospitals and has run an advanced multiple sclerosis centre.

Each patient's symptoms manifest in a unique way, and Dr Rakshi uses a variety of techniques to better assess and treat his patients. He understands the importance of taking the time to listen to his patients and their families, as well as having an open mind when evaluating the more critical and urgent diagnoses; sometimes an inadvertent statement from the patient or family can offer a vital clue that leads to a diagnosis.

Dr Rakshi is known for clearly explaining the patient's neurological condition and how best to treat it. He is also frequently asked to provide a second opinion. He prides himself on arranging investigations in a timely manner and providing detailed reports that are easy to understand. Dr Rakshi's overall approach is straightforward: treat every patient the same way you would want to be treated yourself.

I consulted Dr Rakshi because the trigeminal neuralgia I was diagnosed with 15 years ago had suddenly got a lot worse.. He was so understanding and arranged an MRI to see if there was anything that had changed. His care was outstanding and communication with him was the best experience I've ever had with any doctor . Hopefully his recommendations will remedy my problem.

I saw Dr Rakshi following a traumatic brain injury. He helped me understand the impact of the trauma and establish a new baseline from which we can monitor changes. Dr Rakshi was very thorough whilst also being respectful. He didn't dismiss me, but also didn't go overkill with the tests. He believes in listening to patients and using patients' views to drive his process and suggestions. Even in email communication, Dr Rakshi emails personally and does not rely on a pa. He maintains a personal approach to patients. I felt comfortable in Dr Rakshi's care - he exudes trust, experience, and a genuine desire to help.

I went to Dr. Rakshi for an abnormal fainting episode/ suspected TIA stroke. After experiencing something very scary it was so reassuring to have a kind and patient Dr. He explained complex medical terms in layman and made me feel reassured every step of the way. He ensured that he investigated the possible causes thoroughly and quickly and communicated his thought process for possible causes, ensuring I understood the situation too. He was easy to contact, very responsive to emails and made sure he worked around your availability for Zoom consultations. Throughout the process I felt comfortable and in very capable hands. I would highly recommend.

Before I met Dr Rakshi , I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t move and in so much pain. The NHS list was very long and I had to wait for about six months, but in two weeks of meeting Dr James Rakshi I had my diagnosis of Parkinsonism , treatment began and I was able to stand on my feet to walk again. I will describe Dr James Rakshi as a very good, listener,. empathetic and easy to talk to. I give him permission to publish my healthcare issues anytime, as I owe my life to him. I would highly recommend DR James Rakshi. He has been so helpful in my recent diagnosis of nocturnal epilepsy. I had previously been to other neurologist who was not approachable and did not believe my experiences of a seizure. Until I found DR Rakshi From the start he’s very trustworthy and understanding from my experiences and prospective. With some tests and his knowledge and understanding of epilepsy. Thanks to DR Rakshi I am now on medication for my epilepsy and slowly starting to get back to normal.

Explanation

Making the decision to see Dr. James Rakshi was a pivotal moment in my journey towards understanding my complex symptoms. Prior to my appointment with Dr. Rakshi, my experiences with NHS services had left me extremely frustrated. In my search for a private consultant neurologist, I found myself disheartened by the lack of experienced local professionals and the mixed reviews of others. However, everything changed when I came across Dr. Rakshi's profile. His emphasis on listening to patients with an open mind felt like a glimmer of hope. This was further reinforced by the numerous positive reviews validating his approach and expertise. Determined to receive the best care, I prepared to travel four hours and stay overnight for my appointment. This turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. From the outset, Dr. Rakshi's approach was markedly different. His professional demeanour, combined with a genuine commitment to understanding my symptoms from scratch, was both refreshing and reassuring. Dr. Rakshi’s thoroughness was evident in his organisation of an extensive series of tests. Despite the logistical challenges, he went above and beyond to schedule these within my two-night stay, sparing me the difficulty of multiple trips to London. After each visit, he provided detailed and informative letters to both me and my GP, discussing the findings and exploring potential causes of my symptoms. What sets Dr. Rakshi apart is his willingness to look beyond previous conclusions made by NHS professionals. His fresh perspective has brought us closer to some definitive answers, though one more test remains. Throughout this process, his care has been immensely reassuring. I am confident in his continued attention and dedication to my case. As a result of my experiences, I have decided to continue under Dr. Rakshi's care exclusively, foregoing further NHS treatment. For anyone in doubt about consulting with Dr. Rakshi, I can wholeheartedly assure you that his care is transformative. It's evident that he places immense value on his patients' wellbeing and is committed to uncovering the answers they need. To conclude, my journey to and experiences with Dr. Rakshi have been nothing short of exceptional. His expertise, bedside manner, and patient-centric approach are commendable. I strongly recommend Dr. Rakshi to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate neurologist.

Dr James Rakshi is a very professional doctor. He consulted my dad's Parkinson’s Disease,at first, he went through my dad's medical history detailed, he asked a lot of questions, wrote them down and explained very clearly for his conclusions and what he thought we should to do. during the consultion, he explained slowly and clearly about the several options available to us, and also told us how the medication he prescribed would work. He is happy and encouge us to ask questiones, and he answered these questions patiently. After some times consultant, my dad feel much better than before, we are very thanks to James.

I have known and worked with James for many years. As a GP I want a consultant to pick the phone up if I call as if I do need to call they will know it is important. James is superb and always on the end of a phone to guide me where needed and see my patients very quickly. We work as a team where I may do the work up, so by time he sees the patient he has what he needs, thus streamlining the patient journey and involving less stress. James is an excellent clinician and well like by his patients. He is one of best neurologists I know and I have no hesitation him giving him a 5* review

James is an excellent neurologist. Cardiology and neurology work jointly on patients with stroke. In addition, there is the patient with dizziness- is it heart or brain? The traffic of patients from him is well analysed and sorted. His letters are clear and informative, leaving no doubt as to his opinion. I have no hesitation in recommending him for a neurology opinion.
