Explanation

I went to see Dr Gess very concerned with suspected inflammatory bowel disease. He immediately put me at ease, taking the time and effort to ensure he understood every aspect of my case and addressed all of my concerns, with great empathy. He was extremely thorough and efficient in getting to the bottom of my symptoms and ruling out anything serious. Throughout my (excellent) care, he was very engaging, clear and patient in explaining the course of action, procedures and results in as much detail as I needed, without me ever feeling rushed.  He always made me feel so comfortable, and his ability to “read the situation and patient” and act and respond accordingly was very accurate, and unique in my experience. I’ve suffered with symptoms since I was a child and have seen multiple doctors over the years, and Dr Gess was the first and only doctor to really help me understand my symptoms and how to best manage them. He really is a brilliant doctor with a wonderful manner, combined with a very high level of confidence, experience and knowledge, all which made me feel very reassured and for which I’m extremely grateful. Catherine, his lovely secretary, was equally outstanding in my dealings, with nothing too much trouble. She also manages his practice very efficiently too, ensuring an excellent experience overall.  I have great trust and respect for Dr Gess, who really stands-out as an exceptional example of his profession. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to see him again and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help in his area of expertise.

Explanation

I had a recurrent abdominal pain for which I had undergone tests telling me everything serious had been ruled out. However the abdominal discomfort continued. After an initial consultation which resulted in Markus Gess discovering the most likely cause I was prescribed a simple medication and given science based dietary advice which has resulted in my gut behaving normally again. I am really pleased that the condition is now sorted and am reassured and more knowledgeable about how to keep myself healthy and well. Thank you.

Explanation

An extremely efficient and genuinely caring manner with a skilled ability to "read" his patient. Having a gastroscopy is stressful from the perspective of the test itself and what might be discovered. Markus' calm and thorough explanations at our consultation and on the day helped greatly. During the examination he provided a commentary on what was about to happen next, which again was very comforting. Luckily for me, the outcome was a good one but I felt that, had I needed surgery or worse, a referral to an oncologist, Markus would have dealt with it all in a very good and skilled way. I would recommend him to anyone.

Explanation

In my 3 separate consultations with Dr Gess I found him to be approachable yet professional and able to appropriately rephrase any medical explanations to terms that made sense to me as a layperson. He also made a point to contact me out of hours (on a Saturday) to update on some results that were late back from a laboratory. It felt like this was going the extra mile and was much appreciated.

Explanation

Dr Gess was exceptionally efficient, professional and kind in dealing with my son when he was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease earlier this year. Despite the fact that it was Christmas time, he organised key tests and treatments to take place at the earliest opportunity on Christmas Eve, so that medication could be given and a treatment plan put in place. Within 24 hours, our son was showing signs of improvement after months of severe pain and declining health. Dr Gess was at all times charming, humourous, down to earth and crystal clear in his communication with us.
