About

Dr Paul Jenkins is a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist.

He qualified with a degree in Medical Sciences at Cambridge University; and undertook his clinical training at The Royal London Hospital. Shortly afterwards he joined the internationally renowned Department of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, where he gained unrivalled experience in clinical endocrinology. After completing his MD research degree he was appointed as Senior Lecturer and then Reader in Endocrinology and Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist. For over 10 years he also ran the Endocrine service at Homerton University Hospital. Within the Medical School, he was Dean for Pre-Registration Doctors and an enthusiastic teacher of undergraduate students across all years. He led an active research group into the interactions between hormones and cancer and has published more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers in this field as well as writing several books and textbook chapters.

In 2009, he decided to devote more time to clinical work and after 20 years in practice established The London Endocrine Centre where he is the senior consultant. Dr Jenkins has a particular interest in disorders of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands, as well as diabetes. He has also developed considerable expertise in the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue and more recently long Covid. He firmly believes in a holistic approach to his patients with his consultations allowing plenty of time to discuss all of their concerns and wishes before fully involving them in a shared approach to their optimum management.

Dr. Jenkins has expertise in the following areas:

  • Thyroid disorders
  • Primary Hyperparathyroidism
  • Adrenal and pituitary disease
  • Male 'menopause'
  • Diabetes Mellitus

Explanation

I was very keen to see Dr Jenkins after experiencing a period of illness and fatigue that no other doctors were seemingly able to help me any further with. On top of my thyroid condition, I have had had chronic fatigue that wasn’t improving with medication. Dr Jenkins took the time to listen to my full medical history, asking me questions others had not and clearly trying to get to the root of the problem. He was incredibly understanding and sympathetic and made me feel heard and understood. I’ve spent years feeling as though there was nothing that could be done to improve the situation and that I was at times imagining how bad it was due to feedback I was getting. His thorough testing uncovered the cause of the chronic fatigue and we were able to treat it. I am in a far better state of health than I ever have been and feel ‘normal’ in a way I haven’t for many many years. Very grateful to have found Dr Jenkins. His team has also been incredibly helpful and I’m very grateful to Dr Jenkins and his team for everything.

I've had an amazing experience with Dr Jenkins - when I first came to see him, I was feeling very tired and my hair had started shedding, however now I feel back to my normal self and my hair has returned to normal! He's really made me realise that there is light at the end of the tunnel! Dr Jenkins has been incredibly thorough in performing all of the relevant tests and has guided me every step of the way. He is really good at explaining things, and has made me feel reassured and confident at all times. I am very grateful to him and would recommend him to anyone!

Excellent endocrinologist and highly recommended. I have seen him for burnout years ago and more recently for long Covid. Uses a very data and facts-driven approach, meaning he'll undertake thorough blood tests before jumping to any conclusions or hypothesis. His diagnosis includes a holistic view on your wellbeing, incorporating lifestyle, personal situation, past illnesses, etc and then follow through with a longterm approach and treatment. I am very glad to have found him. His team, esp Susan goes above and beyond to ensure to find you a suitable appointment that matches your requirements and ensure that the collaboration between labs, pharmacy and consultant is seamless. Be aware that there can be a wait for a suitable appointment, but it will be worth it.

Dr Jenkins has been an invaluable help in managing my chronic fatigue condition. After going to tons of doctors before him and no one being able to identify and treat the cause of my illness, I was homebound due to my debilitating condition. With the help of Dr Jenkins, I am now able to walk, travel, work and enjoy life again. Thoroughly recommend him if you have chronic fatigue especially caused by viral infections or hormonal imbalances.

Dr Jenkins has always explained my physical symptoms clearly and concisely, and has been meticulous in examining my blood tests. He has been very reassuring and I have always felt that my physical and psychological concerns were listened to and addressed. Many symptoms that I had were analysed and I realised that most were due to my physical condition and not to the normal aging process. Through his attention to my medical queries I felt that I was being listened to, and that he would do all he could to alleviate them.

Explanation

My experience with Dr Jenkins has been nothing but positive. Unlike other physicians I've seen in the past, he took the time to listen to my concerns and ask thoughtful questions about my symptoms. He also used a variety of diagnostic tools to get a complete picture of my health. What really stood out to me, however, was his willingness to take into account how I was feeling on the medication he had prescribed. Rather than simply relying on test results or textbook knowledge, he took my subjective experience into consideration when making treatment decisions. This level of patient-centered care is rare in my experience and sets him apart from his peers.

Hugely knowledgeable and reassuring. After visiting many specialists I approached Dr Jenkins after listening to his presentation on you tube to the thyroid society. Dr Jenkins considers my symptoms and not just my blood test results. My thyroid is now under control and I feel so much better. Strong admin support team, especially Suzanne who organises everything very smoothly and quickly.
