Dr Richard Keen is a Consultant Rheumatologist at University College Hospital in London and works too at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust in Stanmore. He holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer Appointment at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Sciences at UCL and also sees patients privately, including at the Princess Grace Hospital.
Dr Keen's clinical interests are focused on the management of patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disease. These include Paget's Disease, osteogenesis imperfecta, fibrous dysplasia, fracture repair and bone stress responses. He is involved in a number of research projects connected to examining new imaging techniques to diagnose osteoporosis and other bone diseases and finding new treatments for these conditions.
He also has an interest in bone stress injuries that occur in athletes and has worked with UK Sport and professional rugby and football clubs, with an emphasis on non-surgical treatments to improve facture repair. He is a member of the National Osteoporosis Society's National Scientific Committee and is on the Programme Committee for the Annual NOS Meeting. He is also a member of the British Rheumatology Society, the Bone Research Society, the Skeletal Dysplasia Aociety and is also a Trustee for the charity, the National Association for the Relief of Paget's Disease.
