Melanie Corbett is a Consultant Ophthalmologist based in London at The Western Eye Hospital, Imperial NHS Trust. She qualified from The Royal London Hospital with a degree in Medicine from the University of London in 1987, before going on to complete postgraduate ophthalmic training at several prestigious hospitals in both Oxford and London.
She specialises in Cataract, Cornea, Ocular Surface conditions, Anterior Segment surgery and Medical Contact Lens fitting. She has developed novel aproaches to dry eye and ocular surface irritation. Her MD thesis was on corneal wound healing, she published a book on corneal topography and has over 70 scientific publications. She is a Past President of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association.
Miss Corbett is Chair of Education at The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and was Lead Training Programme Director for North Thames. She is responsible for the curriculum design and implementation of the national Multiprofessional Ophthalmic Training Programme. She has led "Training the Trainers" for The Royal College for 10 years, rolling out programmes in the UK, Africa and the Far East.
She has now combined her aptitude and passion for teaching and surgical training with her natural sporting ability. She played representative hockey, tennis and squash at county level and above, and has successfully coached her daughter's club hockey team to become National Champions.
