David Corless has been a consultant for 17 years. He specialises in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He completed his initial medical training in 1985 and was also awarded a BSc in Neurophysiology as a result of research funding from the Medical Research Council.
Mr. Corless became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in 1990 and in 1996 passed the Intercollegiate (Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow) Fellowship in General Surgery. In 1997 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Birmingham for his thesis on gastric cancer. Mr. Corless continues to be active in the field of research and is widely published including publications in over 30 journal articles in addition to book chapters and several international presentations. He also sits on several audit committees and has chaired the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network and Oesophagogastric clinical groups of Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
Since relocating to the North West Mr. Corless has performed major complex cancer and bariatric work at University Hospital North Staffordshire NHS Trust and emergency and elective surgery at Mid Cheshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Within the NHS he currently manages complex surgery, day cases and endoscopy. He has been appointed as Associate Medical Director for all surgical specialties whilst continuing to be the lead clinician for upper GI surgery in his hospital.
