I call Mr Stafford the ‘Miracle Worker’ as he has changed my life from misery to happiness. He looked at my X-rays and knew instantly that bilateral hip replacements were needed in my case. He explained this to me clearly and simply. Prior to this, I had not realised that it was my hip joints that were causing just about all of my leg problems. These included constant, increasing, excruciating pain down both of my legs (night and day), that had built up from nothing over a year. Sequential replacement was also an option (he suggested eight weeks apart, if I wanted to go down this route), but he thought bilateral (ie at the same time) was the most sensible. I am so glad that I went for the bilateral, as the sequential would have left me with one leg with the excruciating pain and this would have been useless in helping the recovery of the operated hip. As it is the previous pain switched off immediately after the bilateral operations and I was able to stand and walk around a bit (with a frame) from an hour after leaving the theatre recovery room. I was gobsmacked. Mr Stafford and his team have been professional, caring and informative throughout this process. As he suggested, I hadn’t needed crutches from four weeks, and I am pleased to say that he was able to discharge me after checking my six-week X-rays. My recovery should continue steadily from here over the next few weeks and months. To summarise, Mr Stafford knew exactly what my problem was and how to sort it out; his treatment has been spot on; and he has been backed by an excellent, professional team.

From my initial consultation with Mr Stafford last lear 2023 I realised he was a great communicator. He performed a hip injection shortly after explaining the limitations of such procedure. At my request he liased with Chris Watkins, anaesthetist, who had previously soothed my troubled anaesthetics history in August 2023, to attend my current hip replacement. I have already spoken to a friend of Mr Stafford`s excellence if he decides to undergo similar surgery.

Excellent throughout - very clear in explaining what would happen at every stage. More importantly perhaps, my hip feels much better...

As well as being an excellent surgeon Mr Stafford communicates well with patients. I always felt fully informed, confident in understanding what was going to happen during and after the procedure. I was also made aware what I could do to maximise a successful outcome. I could not be more pleased with the result.

I am very grateful for the care, thoughtfulness and skill of Mr Stafford throughout my hip replacement. From the initial consultation onwards he has been very happy to explain the process, and equally happy to fully address every question I have asked. The operation itself went very smoothly, and having just had my first post-operative check-up I cannot speak highly enough of the confidence and reassurance that Mr Stafford provides regarding my future prognosis. I have been absolutely delighted with all aspects of Mr Stafford's care.

Diagnosed with osteo-arthritis in my hip a couple of years ago; probably due to ten years of kickboxing and box-splits nearly every day; at the end, even walking was slow and painful. Chose Giles Stafford because my kickboxing instructor had the same op with a great outcome just a few months prior. The pre and post process was splendid, the hospital exerience was caring and I couldn't be happier with the clinical outcome. I would say I had better movement within one month of the op (than prior). At nearly three months I have started very gentle forefoot strike running and have re-joined the gym. I'm delighted.
