Fantastic experience with Mr Akmal and team. I was in and out for surgery on the same day (my previous microdiscectomy had been a 2-night case). I felt like I was given the right amount of information and chance to try other measures to make my own informed choice about surgery. I had no pain following the operation, and my quality of life is so much better now. I can move and walk freely. I recommend Mr Akmal as the best for this back surgery.

Mr Akmal is a highly skilled, caring, friendly and patient surgeon who has changed my life! He carried out a spinal decompression and dynamic stabilisation (Coflex device) operation on my spine in June 2023 and the results have been fantastic. The sciatica pain from stenosis and spondylolisthesis was excruciating and I put up with it and tried different therapies for 2 years before consulting Mr Akmal. He saw me quickly, listened carefully to me and looked at my MRI scans and recommended the surgery, which he carried out within 3 weeks of the consultation. The results are great - hugely reduced pain which continues to reduce every day, a quick recovery from the surgery and brilliant aftercare. I cannot recommend Mr Akmal and his team highly enough - they are excellent.

Rarely have I experienced such genuine care and interest in my issues. Mr Akmal diagnosed in detail the cause of my pain and showed me clearly on the MRI scan where the discs had collapsed causing a distortion on my spine. He laid out the various options for treatment, explaining carefully the pros and cons for each option. While the decision of which treatment to undertake was mine entirely, I was fully supported by Mr Akmal ensuring I understood not just the potential benefits but importantly the risks. I elected for surgery to replace/fuse the affected discs and this was undertaken as a day case. The surgery was a total success and I felt immediate relief from pain with some 3 weeks later virtually full resolution of all my issues as the nerves settled. My experience has validated my belief the Mr Akmal is not only at the top of his profession but has the rare qualities of genuine compassion in his patients.

I was referred to Mr. Akmal following continued spinal issues. I had previously had a fusion in my neck (C5/6) about 15 years ago and was now suffering again. Over more than 9 months, my level of pain and disability had increased to an unbearable level. I now live in Malta and the surgeons here could not help as the situation was too complex due to the previous operation. There were issue both above and below the original fusion. Mr. Akmal and the team at the London Spine Clinic were amazing and the level of care was very high. Following the initial consultations, The continual flow of information, both before and after the operation was superb. I felt very confident that I was in good hands. This was proved to be correct and Mr. Akmal performed a double operation in one process. He fitted a prosthetic disc above the original fusion and performed another fusion directly below. The operation was done in one day and the pain relief was immediate. The level of follow up support was second to none and the team were caring and attentive. Dr. Lok was very good and reassuring, being happy to see or talk to me whenever I needed. Some weeks later, any residual pain is just about gone, and I am back to living a normal life again. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for Mr. Akmal and his team and would definitely recommend them to anyone who is in need of spinal care. Thank you!

I can't thank Mr Akmal and team at the London Spine Unit enough for their help. I had a herniated disc in my back which was causing pain and restrictions. Compared to other offers of surgery (e.g. several nights in hospital), the day surgery and minimally invasive procedure were hugely appealing. I am now 3 weeks post surgery, have no pain and am recovering incredibly quickly if I compare myself to friends who have had a similar procedure. it was truly remarkable, straightforward and the team were kind, friendly and always helpful. very highly recommended! After suffering with back pain for most of my 20s, I am so happy I found Mr Mo Akmal. I had many years of misdiagnosis and never really felt my condition was understood. Given Mr Akmal is a highly renowned spine surgeon my expectations were high - I am happy to write they were not only met but exceeded. I underwent cutting edge laser surgery for a cervical disc herniation with excellent results. I knew I was making an informed decision and was reassured at all times. I effectively had surgery without an incision, resulting in a much quicker recovery, especially valuable for my work as a Pilates teacher.
